PROJECTS
Each year, the Rio Grande AMA participates in a number of projects. Below are several of the annual events the group organizes or participates in throughout the year.
SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
August
Members participated in a local school supply drive. Backpacks are packed according to each student's school district and grade level. Members helped distribute over 300 backpacks in one day.
ALUMNI FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE
September
Though spread across multiple states, the Rio Grande AMA alumni stay in touch by competing in this league. This league is a great way for alumni to communicate with one another, but also for newer members to meet the "Rio AMA legends" who have helped build the chapter into what it is today.
MEMBERSHIP SOCIAL
October
Whether dining out together, bowling, exploring haunted trails, or challenging one another to video game battles at the advisor's home, the fall social allows members to gather together off-campus to discuss upcoming events and build comraderie.
MARKETING WEEK
October
Each year, the group organizes a Marketing Week on the Rio Grande campus. Marketing Week seeks to educate members of the college about the field of marketing while also promoting the AMA. Events held during this week have included social media scavenger hunts, logo games, refreshments in the BEF rotunda, movie nights, and even Humans vs. Zombies!
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS VISITATION DAY
November
Each November, the AMA hosts approximately 200 high school students from 5-8 local high schools. Visiting students are given a particular topic and are required to devise a marketing strategy. AMA members help to plan and run this event, which is one of the largest recruiting events on the Rio campus.
CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY
December
Each December, AMA members works with a local nonprofit to adopt local children for Christmas. Members donate money, select presents, and wrap them as part of this special holiday project.
CHRISTMAS SOCIAL
December
Right before Christmas break, members of the Rio Grande AMA gather to celebrate Christmas. While basking in the festive atmosphere, members socialize and evaluate the activities of the semester.
COLUMBUS AMA LUNCHEONS
Fall & Spring Semesters
On the second Tuesday of each month, the Columbus AMA hosts a business luncheon, where members can network and listen to a presentation by a guest speaker. The Rio Grande AMA attends two of these luncheons each year: one in the fall, and the Super Bowl Ad Review in February. This trip is a great time for members, as members make the two hour trek to the state capital to meet professional marketers and hear about the latest trends in the field.
INTERNATIONAL COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE
March/April
The International Collegiate Conference is the crescendo of the Rio AMA's year. Members fundraise all year long to travel to New Orleans to attend this conference, which features speakers, competitions, and networking opportunities. The conference concludes with the annual awards ceremony, where outstanding chapter performances are recognized.
RIO GRANDE AMA AWARDS BANQUET
April
At the end of each school year, the Rio Grande AMA hosts its annual awards banquet. This banquet is a special time to honor seniors, and all other members who contributed throughout the year. Members and their families are invited to attend, and during the dinner, a slide show of photos from the year is shown.
